Semester 1
Week 1
- This week I was introduced to the project by my teacher where we read the brief on what we're going to do in the project, what it requires, and the timeline as well. This made me excited to do the project as I got an overall view of what's going to happen for the next few weeks.
- After that, I created the blogs for the brief, my team, and the research
- My group and I then started on our preliminary research for our music video genre, comparing the different genres of music (the result can be found in the preliminary research blog).
Problems: -
Solutions: -
To-do: Finish preliminary research
Week 2
- Since last week I didn't finish my preliminary research, I had to continue it this week
- In addition to that, this week I had to decide on the genre of our music video
Problems: We had to contemplate on the genre for quite some time as not only are there many options, we had to match it with our budget on props and camera as well as the time span we have.
Solutions: We discussed a genre we like, discussing whether it was doable, and thus settled on that.
To-do: Since we want to start early, we should start brainstorming multiple songs including their pros and cons so that we can decide on a song we want to use for our music video.
Week 3
- After deciding on a fixed genre, I started on a research regarding that genre where I have to complete 2 big research and 6 small research about its conventions, representations, and the effects of the technical elements included.
- Lastly, my teammates and I started brainstorming on the song we would like to use.
Problems: We had multiple options of songs to choose from.
Solutions: We had to lay out all their pros and cons and whether it would fit our budget or not as well.
To-do: Genre research - 2 big research and 6 small research
Week 4
- As my group and I have finished deciding on a song to use, we started on our statement of intent where we thought about our target audience and how we're going to appeal to them, as well as the description of our star and their persona.
- I also learned about the Theory of Stardom in class where this gave me the idea of celebrity personality. This will help me in creating a reel persona for my music video's star actor that will be portrayed not only in the music video, but also in their social media page as well.
Problems: I was sick and at home when the statement of intent was given to my group mates, thus I couldn't really contribute to writing a lot of its parts.
Solutions: We communicated through a group chat we made special for this project where I could tell my group mates a few answers to the questions given in the statement of intent.
To-do: -
Week 5
- This week I started on the mood board for my music video where my groupmates and I planned to create 2 separate mood boards for the 2 different main locations we will be shooting in such as the village and the city. This is as we are portraying them differently to create different vibes and atmosphere.
- In addition to that, my team was given a lyric sheet to annotate our ideas on each scenes regarding each verses of the lyrics.
- We are starting on our storyboard as well and though that isn't my part of the work, I'm excited to see our ideas turn into something visual that we can use as a guidance to what we want our actual music video to look like.
Problems: When annotating the lyric sheet, there were a few times where I was stuck on what to create on certain verses of the lyrics. This is as we had to make a flow and make everything connect, taking into account that we're creating a narrative.
Solutions: On the lyric sheet, we laid down our ideas in bullet points as options for each verses and had discussions on whether it would work or not. Later, we transferred it to an online platform, Canva, where we blended each of my groupmates' ideas together as a finalized narrative.
To-do: Finish the 2 different mood boards.
Week 6
- I didn't come to this week's class as I had an Economics exam, however my friends told me what I missed which are:
-> Doing a song research as a group where we have to research about our song's background, the reason we chose it, and how we're going to make our music video different to the artist's original music video.
-> Made a screen test involving the whole class
-> Classwork regarding technical elements such as camera, mise-en-scene, sound, and edit.
Problems: I wasn't really present during these moments, so there was quite a lot to catch up on
Solutions: Thankfully, I had my groupmates to fill me in on what I missed and my teacher gave me a checkmark list regarding the blogs that needs to be completed as well.
To-do: Song research, screen test, and classwork.
Reflection: This marks the end of term 2 where we are almost halfway in this project. There were numerous different problems that I faced so far, but I especially remembered how quite stressful it was trying to catch up on missing works including their instructions and explanations as I was taking my Business and Economics AS level exams. However, it was really kind of my groupmates to update me on what they were doing in class where I had added it here. Putting it in the format above helped me keep track on what I missed and what I had to complete by that week, thus I can avoid missing a task. In addition to that, reading back on how there was always a solution to each problem I had gave me a sort of motivating feeling as it showed me how I can always tackle the challenges I encounter.
Semester 2
This is my class's project plan for term 3.
Week 1
- This is the start of a new semester, so I will go back to week 1 to make it less confusing.
- This week, my team and I created a mini music video as a practice with the whole class where each team were told to do different verses of the same song. We went through the process of brainstorming ideas, putting them into a storyboard, coordinating our star and background actors, and recording.
- In the next class, my team and I were tasked to create a short educational video regarding a topic we learned in class. I was in charge of editing the video and gained more experience in this area.
Problems: For the creation of both the mini music video and the short educational video, the class was given a time limit which for me, didn't really work well as the coordinating and editing part had to be done in a rush.
Solutions: I realized that we should've stated our tasks clearly to each other to prevent miscommunications that created delays as well as dividing the tasks equally amongst group members so that we can finish quicker and therefore smoothly move on to the next task.

Week 2
- This week my teacher taught us about multi-cam editing. He placed us in a circle formation, surrounding a friend dancing in the middle. My team and I stood and recorded in different places in the circle for the purpose of the multi-cam editing.
- We were also tasked to continue our filming schedule. Though one of my team members created it beforehand, we had to update it for the current month as the previous data was for the filming we had done during the semester break.
Problems: I was inexperienced in editing so it took me quite some time to explore the tools. Not only that, because I made mistakes and didn't like how it turned out in the end, I had to redo it a few times and it was frustrating for me.
Solutions: I wanted to get better in editing so after school, I watched YouTube tutorials and tips. After, I tried re-editing the video again and I was satisfied as it was much better.
To-do: Filming schedule
To-do: Filming schedule
Week 3
- My teacher introduced a few more research that my team and I had to do regarding our music video project, such as; branding research, social media research and development, and digipak research and development. Since my team only had 3 members, we could easily divide the tasks equally where I was then tasked to do the branding research.
- Next, we had to create a mind map regarding the branding identity of our star actor. On the mind map we discussed her persona, her social media presence, our target audience, and a few more.
Problems: I was confused on how to start the branding research as I have not done it before for other projects.
Solutions: Thankfully, my teacher gave a guide on what to include in the research in which I will follow. In addition to that, I read through a similar research done by my seniors as a reference as well.
To-do: Branding research
To-do: Branding research
Week 4
- This week I only had one media class due to public holidays. Thus during the holiday, I continued on my branding research on one more indie-pop singer.
- In that one class, my teacher introduced 2 more blogposts that the class had to do which are first, Production: File organization, explaining the software and systems I use. Second, Production: Behind-the-scenes, entailing scene descriptions, my role, problems faced and their solutions.
Problems: I didn't have any problems this week as the guidelines for the new blogs that I had to do was clear enough for me to follow.
Solutions: -
To-do: Production: File organization and Production: Behind-the-scenes blogposts.
To-do: Production: File organization and Production: Behind-the-scenes blogposts.
Week 5
- This week my team and I created a Google Form for an audience feedback regarding drafts of our music video and digipak in order to know what went well and what could be improved so that in the end, we would have better quality products. This can be found in the Screen Test: Audience Feedback blogpost.
- Not only did we gain feedback from the audiences, our teacher gave some as well where it was mainly about what could be changed in the editing of the music video to improve both the visuals and the storyline.
Problems: There were quite a lot of feedback for the editing and though some were just simple changes, it was pretty overwhelming to think about. Regine, which is the team member that edits, was also sick on the day my teacher gave the feedback so I had to make sure that I relayed the message accurately with the right details to avoid misunderstandings and mistakes.
Solutions: As my teacher talked, I had typed down the main points of what he suggested to a group chat my team members and I share where I sent them immediately so that when she had questions, I am able to directly ask my teacher and make everything more clear.
To-do: Screen Test: Audience Feedback blogpost

Week 6
- This week school was closed due to bad weather, therefore we had to do online classes.
- During the online classes, the class started on the critical self-reflection essay where beforehand, my teacher explained each questions that had to be answered as well as creating a plan
- On another class, my team members and I continued on finishing the Screen test: Audience Feedback blogpost after waiting for all of the responses of the people we sent the form to.
